What Defenders Can Learn From History - and Martial Arts

Experts Discuss Ransomware Resilience, Threat Trends
Chris Borales, senior manager, product marketing, Gigamon, and Tom Dager, CISO, Archer Daniels Midland Company

Obtaining threat insight is like practicing judo - you want to use your attacker's power against them, says Chris Borales, senior manager of product marketing at Gigamon. He and Tom Dager, CISO of Archer Daniels Midland Company, discuss how to keep pace with the evolving ransomware landscape.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Borales and Dager discuss:

  • The evolution of modern ransomware;
  • What defenders can learn from history - and martial arts;
  • How to swap the stakes so that the attacker has to be right every time and the defender just once.

Borales is the senior product marketing manager for ThreatINSIGHT and security solutions at Gigamon. He has more than 15 years of experience in product management and product marketing and has trained cybersecurity team members on secure coding practices, secure system administration, and cybersecurity best practices.

Dager is CISO at Archer Daniels Midland Company, or ADM. He develops, implements and monitors a strategic, comprehensive enterprise information security and IT risk management program to ensure the integrity, confidentiality and availability of information owned, controlled or processed by the organization. Previously, he was an audit committee member at Delta Community Credit Union.
