"Historically, anti-virus worked, but now it's kind of a needle in a haystack problem, where we're looking for a specific file," he notes. "The problem is the attackers know this, so they just change the file, mutate it and use new techniques that can bypass traditional anti-virus protection."
As a result, organizations need advanced endpoint protection that can identify and stop exploit behaviors, he says.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at the recent Healthcare Security Summit in New York, Kaminski:
- Describes a new approach to endpoint protection;
- Emphasizes the need to prevent macro execution and educate users on various protective measures;
- Explains why ransomware attacks will continue to be a major threat.
