Four years ago, Palo Alto Networks coined the term XDR - extended detection and response. Today, Bruce Hembree, field CTO of Cortex - Palo Alto Networks, discusses the state and promise of XDR adoption, particularly for smaller security teams.

Hembree is Palo Alto Networks' field chief technology officer for Cortex. Prior to Palo Alto Networks, he worked extensively with the U.S. Department of Defense and served as security operations manager at the Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit. The DCU works with law enforcement agencies such as the FBI, Scotland Yard, Interpol, and foreign and domestic government entities doing offensive takedowns of global internet threats, online organized crime, and botnets such as Citadel, Zbot, Conficker, and Rustock, among others. Hembree is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and spent two years deployed to active conflict areas in support of global anti-terrorism efforts.
